What the colour green can teach us about abundance

In the beginning of this year I asked my husband to make me a vegetable box where I can plant my own salads, capsicums, brocolli etc.

I was a true ‘greenie’, in the sense that I still had to learn lots about growing my own fruit and vegetables. So the box was ready and off I went to buy seedlings of lettuces, tomatoes, capsicums, brocolli etc. I bought six of everything and planted it all in my veggie box.

My thinking was based on scarcity because I thought that I needed lots of everything.

Well, nature taught me in the following months that, first of all you have to nurture and look after the seedlings. Plants love good nutrition, water and care, just like we do. The second lesson I learned was that nature always give in abundance!

When I first bought the seedlings, I only saw tiny plants and thought I needed lots of them.

After a couple of weeks I saw that the plants had grown and there was more fruit and salad leaves than I could possibly eat. There was another lesson that nature taught me; to be patient. In the beginning I wanted the plants to grow faster. I would go every day and see if there were any fruits. The first couple of weeks I taught, there is nothing happening until all of a sudden it all started to grow and flourish.

The colour green represents balance, hope and growth. If we apply the law of nature to ourselves, because we are part of nature, we have to realize that within each of us is an abundance of talents, strengths, options and possibilites. Are we nurturing ourselves just as we nurture our plants?

It is only in the last couple of years that celebrities are starting to wear the colour green. This colour is one of the least worn colours and this is not without reason.

Whenever you actually start wearing this colour it signifies that you are allowing yourself to grow on an emotional and spiritual level and follow your own heart’s desires and not what is expected of you by others.

When we do this we can see that by nurturing our talents, gifts and strengths, we are able to give back to others and in return experience the abundance of life. There are seeds of creativity, inspiration, ideas within each of us. Are you allowing these seeds to grow and feed/help others with the fruit of these seeds or are you keeping these seeds tucked away? You only need one little seed to grow a tree with many fruits.

Use the psychology of colour to remind yourself to allow your seeds of whatever talent to grow. Whenever you see the colour green, or a green traffic light, say to yourself: I am allowing myself to move forward!

Pay attention to the unsprouted seeds of talents within you, nurture them and allow the seeds time to grow, don’t be as impatient as I was with my plants, and you will reap the harvest in abundance.

Interestingly, the colour green is also the symbolic colour of money!

Be colourful, be you!
